Ever since he has made his debut for India, Jasprit Bumrah has been one of the major contributor for its victories across all three formats. Currently, he is the world's number one bowler in ODIs and recently became the third Indian bowler to pick up a Test hat-trick. However, former India pacer Chetan Sharma felt that the Indian team management should consider the idea of resting Jasprit Bumrah for home Test matches.

A veteran of 23 Tests and 65 ODIs, Chetan Sharma said, "I think he should be rested (for Tests in India). We should not waste a talent like him. There's reason why he's the best bowler in the world now, we shouldn't test him in these conditions at all."

With the T20I series against South Africa ending with a 1-1 verdict, the focus will now shift to the longest format of the game which would be a part of ICC World Test Championship.

"World Test Championship is going on and Bumrah is very important for India's plans. There's no need to prove it to the world that Bumrah can take wickets on Indian pitches. Ultimately we need to win and earn points."

"The team management should assess the conditions, play spinners and rest Bumrah. Ultimately India need to win Test matches and on Indian tracks it doesn't matter whether Ashwin takes wickets or Kuldeep or Bumrah."

Chetan Sharma also felt that India have a potent attack to pick up 20 wickets even in the absence of Bumrah.

"Times have changed, gone are the days when we used to depend only on Kapil Dev as the lone wicket-taking fast bowler. Now we have one of the best bowling line-ups in the world. We have Bhuvneshwar, Shami, Ishant, Navdeep is also there, so give them chances, why put pressure only on Bumrah alone? Bumrah should be called only when it's absolutely necessary."

"He (Bumrah) has the talent to pick wickets on every track but my only concern is, he shouldn't pick up an injury playing on lifeless tracks."

The first Test between India and South Africa will be played at Visakhapatnam from October 2.
