The wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant is set to join India’s World Cup squad in England as a replacement for injured Shikhar Dhawan, reports on Tuesday revealed. India was going smooth in the tournament, however, opener, Shikhar Dhawan injured his thumb against Australia, owing to which he has been ruled out for at least three weeks.

Although there is no official confirmation, reports are claiming that Dhawan’s injury is quite severe and the left-handed batsman won’t be available for the rest of the matches of the World Cup. Rishabh Pant, the attacking batsman, is now expected to replace him.

"Once all the details on Dhawan's injury are out, the team management will put out an official request for a replacement. And that replacement is going to be Pant. The injury is bad enough to ask for a replacement," Times of India quoted sources.

Dhawan looked exceptional for his hundred against Australia though he was hit by a Pat Cummins bouncer, injuring his thumb. His injury surely is going to impact the Indian team in the mega event. Kl Rahul, who played at number 4 in the first two matches, will probably open the innings for India in the upcoming match. While there is still uncertainty about the future number 4 for India in the World Cup.

Pant recently showed form in the Indian Premier League but wasn’t included in the World Cup squad. The Delhi native though might soon get to don the Blue jersey as Dhawan’s replacement. The official confirmation regarding this will be provided by the team management at 2 pm UK time (around 6:30 pm IST).
