Shubman Gill is seen as the next big things following his Under 19 World Cup exploits in February 2018. The youngster has been knocking the door of the selectors with his string of good performance in domestic tournaments and India  A Matches. His hard work finally paid off when he was selected for the Test series against South Africa.

Moments after the news broke out  Gill tweeted "Be it blue or white. It's always an honour to represent my country,". 


Every young cricketer has his role model and for Shubman it's Team India skipper Virat Kohli's work ethics that he follows Speaking to The Times of India he said  "I have my role models. I try to follow the work ethics of Virat bhaiya but I know every player is different and you can't copy anyone," "I know I can hit from the first ball. But I also know how to play long knocks. It depends on the situation. These days, you have to have the ability to hit from the word go.

Gill got his first taste of domestic cricket at the age of 17 when he was drafted for Punjab side which had Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh in its ranks, but the youngster drew inspiration from Yuvraj to get ready for top-level cricket

"I tried not to get overawed by them. They were very helpful Yuvi paa is my inspiration. His journey, his struggles with his health and the way he looks at the game is so inspirational. That has helped me so much to get ready for the top grade of cricket." he said

Gill scored 90 and 5 in the first unofficial Test against South Africa A that concluded on Thursday.
