After the 1st T20I in Dharamshala was washed out both India and South Africa will praying that the rain gods stay away from IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali the venue for the second T20I between these sides on Wednesday. Both the teams will be looking to win the game in three-match series, as the winner would not lose the rubber. With such high stakes, none of the teams will be willing to make mistakes.

 

With just a couple of hours left before the match starts at Mohali, we look at some interesting numbers between these teams 

 

1) India has faced South Africa at home twice during the series in 2015 and lost both while batting first. The Proteas are the only team that India failed to defeat in a T20I at home.

 

2) India played two T20Is games at the PCA Stadium in Mohali one against Sri Lanka in 2009 and second against Australia in the 2016 WT20. The hosts won both the game by 6 wickets.

 

3) The game at Dharamshala was only the 3rd time when the first match of India’s home season got abandoned/canceled/washed out. 

 

4) South Africa have played four International matches in Mohali which also includes two against India. While the Proteas lost to Men in Blue at this venue (ODI in 1993 & Test in 2015) they won the remaining two games against Pakistan in Champions Trophy 2006 and Netherlands in 2011 World Cup.

 

5) India has edge over South Africa in overall matches played between both sides. In the 13 T20Is played till date India has won 8 while South Africa has won the remaining five. 

 

6) Quinton de Kock will become the 11th captain of South Africa in the T20I format on Wednesday. The keeper-batsman has led the Proteas in two ODIs during the 2018 series in Sri Lanka. 

 

7) Rohit Sharma has scored most runs ( 341 runs) in the T20I format against South Africa in IND-SA T20Is. He scored these runs across ten innings at an average of 37.88. His maiden T20I ton back in 2015 which was against the Proteas only.

 

8) David Miller holds the record for scoring the second most number of runs by any player in the Twenty20 format in Mohali. The South African amassed 730 runs from 29 innings which include a fifty and an unbeaten hundred.
