Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma put on 60 runs for the eight wicket to frustrate West Indies, as India got to 297 in their first innings in the first Test at Antigua. Jadeja got his fifty, and Ishant managed 19 in 62 as the duo negotiated the threat posed by the Windies seamers under overcast conditions.

After Rishabh Pant was sent back early, Jadeja upped his game as his innings of 62 balls was laced with six fours and a six. He was the last man to be dismissed.

India resumed the day at 203 for 6, with Pant batting on 20, and Jadeja batting alongside him on five. The wicket-keeper was the first player to go back in the day, as Kemar Roach got his fourth wicket with a delivery that moved away to get the edge of the youngster.

In walked Ishant, and gave able support to Jadeja, who justified his inclusion in the team ahead of Ravi Ashwin. Ishant, in particular, impressed with his handling of the Windies pacers. He came out on the front foot and tackled the rising ball with ease as well.

After he was dismissed in the 90th over, Mohammad Shami too followed soon as he could last just one ball. With the last batsman, Jasprit Bumrah, in for company, Jadeja collected some vital runs and got his 11th fifty.
