After West Indies got off to a great start with the bat, scoring 115 in only 65 balls for the first wicket, rain interrupted proceedings during the third and final ODI between West Indies and India at Trinidad.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the hosts got off to a blistering start as the duo of Chris Gayle, playing his last ODI, and Evin Lewis stitched together an aggressive partnership at the top. The new-ball bowlers from India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed and Mohammad Shami, were unable to get their lengths right, as the rival batters took them apart.

Lewis was the first to go off the bowling of Yuzvendra Chahal, while Gayle followed soon after, and walked back to the dressing room to a guard of honour.

Rain started pouring down at this stage and halted the game for over three hours, which meant that overs started getting deducted. Finally, the rain clouds cleared up around 12am IST (August 15), and the teams will now play a 35-over a side game.

India are 1-0 up in the three-match ODI series after they won the second ODI by 51 runs. This match was also rain-affected, as was the first ODI, which was ultimately washed out due to rain.
