UAE has introduced a new cricket format called the 90-ninety bash, which is a ninety-ball cricket game. The first season of this format will be staged in Sharjah next year, with the Emirates Cricket Board giving its approval.

The format was introduced by Abdul Rahman Bukhatir, Salman Iqbal and Imran Chaudhry. Iqbal is the owner of the Pakistan Super League franchise Karachi Kings.

“The proposed 90-Ninety format will be shorter than Twenty20, with the aim of making every contest sharp, edgy and action-packed, while retaining the importance of cricket skills at the core of its success,” said a press release from the tournament.

The league is yet another tournament that will get underway after the success of T20 cricket all around the world. UAE already introduced the T10 league last year, which was criticised heavily as it was tampering with the existing game of cricket. England too has launced The Hundred, which too, has come under criticism.
