Ravi Shastri has been retained as the Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. The selection of the head coach was made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy. Earlier, the CAC shortlisted six candidates from the bunch of applicants for the interview process. The candidates were Ravi Shastri, Mike Hesson, Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput, Robin Singh and Phil Simmons. Phil Simmons opted out of the process citing personal reasons.

Today, the selected candidates were asked to present their roadmap for Team India's success and each member of the CAC individually presented their marks out of 100. There were five parameters on which the candidates were judged - Coaching philosophy, experience of coaching, achievements in coaching, communication and knowledge of modern coaching tools. Addressing the Press conference, after interviewing the candidates, Kapil Dev said that there was a slight difference between Mike Hesson and Ravi Shastri. Eventually, Ravi Shastri won the battle and will continue to serve as the Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team till 2021

Ravi Shastri's tenure ended after the ICC World Cup 2019 but his team was given an extension for 45 days until the end of the West Indies tour. Under Ravi Shastri, Team India reached the semifinals of the 50 over World Cup, won a Test series in Australian soil for the first time ever and also reached the number one spot in the ICC Test rankings.

Before the tour to West Indies, Virat Kohli backed Ravi Shastri to continue as the head coach of the national team. He said, "The CAC hasn't contacted me yet. If they want my opinion I'll go and speak to them. With Ravi bhai, we share a great camaraderie and will definitely be very happy if he continues. But I haven't been contacted so far."

During Ravi Shastri's second term as the Head Coach, the side will face several difficult assignments including the ICC World Test Championship and the ICC T20 World Cup.
