Former Zimbabwe cricketer Grant Flower served as the batting coach of Pakistan Cricket Team for a period of five years from 2014. During this period, there was constant shuffling of players, head coaches, fielding coaches and bowling coaches. Few days ago, the Pakistan Cricket Board decided not to renew his contract too. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Grant Flower said, the "lack of freedom and security aspect" is the most frustrating aspect about living in Pakistan.

The Zimbabwean termed the Champions Trophy triumph in 2017, where Pakistan beat India in the finals as his "proudest personal achievement". He also added that the hammering they received from West Indies in the ICC World Cup 2019 as his "most frustrating day" with the Pakistan team. This loss proved costly as Pakistan failed to progress through to the semifinals.

Grant Flower admired the passion of the players and their love for the game. He said, "It is such a nice thing to see because they've got so much to gain by playing for Pakistan as so much to lose by not playing. It's such a big thing for them and their families."

When asked what he wouldn't miss about working in Pakistan, he said, "Some of the backstabbing by ex-players. And a lot of politics that happens within the TV channels, the journalists and some of the politics in PCB itself. I won't miss those certainly."

He also heaped praise on the country's brightest cricket sensation Babar Azam. He said, "He's probably the best bloke I've ever coached - certainly the best Pakistani I've ever coached." He also felt that among the current set of players Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq have improved the most in the past five years.

He also had a message for Pakistan fans. He said, "I just want to wish them all the best for the future and being supportive and passionate, which they already are. And have faith. Have faith in players and stick behind them. Look for the positives as opposed to negatives."

With the PCB not renewing his contract, Grant Flower is looking for a coaching job. He either wants to become a batting coach or a head coach elsewhere.
