Indian skipper Virat Kohli praised Shreyas Iyer for rising to the occasion under pressure in the ODI series against Windies. After the 24-year old scored 136 runs in two games, and helped India over the line with two crucial fifties in the second and third ODI, Kohli stated that Iyer could be a regular in the middle order for India.

In the second game, Iyer along with Kohli shared a partnership of 125 and had a stand of 120 in the third game after the team was in a spot of bother. In the third ODI, Iyer walked out to bat when the Men in Blue were 91 for 3 after 13 overs, chasing 255 in 35 overs. He scored an impactful 65 that came in 41 balls as he helped reduce the pressure on Kohli, who was unbeaten on 114.

"I am very happy. I want to come out to bat in this kind of tough situation when everybody in the dressing room is nervous. I love it because the (complexion of the) match can change and anything can happen in the team position," Iyer told Chahal in an interview after the third ODI on Wednesday.

Kohli was impressed with Iyer and showered his praise on him in the post-match press conference.

"He (Iyer) was not intimidated at all, he was very confident, very sure of his game. At no stage he looked like getting out. He has suddenly presented a role for himself, playing according to the situation. Hopefully he keeps performing like this for the team ... he can be a strong contender and a regular feature in the middle order," Kohli said.

After winning the ODI series 2-0, India will now play two Tests against Windies. Iyer is not part of the Test squad.
