Former Pakistan leg-spinner Abdul Qadir passed away in Lahore on Friday after suffering a cardiac arrest. He represented Pakistan in 67 Tests and 104 ODIs in a career spanning 16 years between 1977 and 1991. He picked up 236 and 132 wickets in Tests and ODIs respectively.

Former Pakistan World Cup winning skipper and current Prime Minister Imran Khan led tribute to his teammate. In a series of tweets posted by him, he said that numbers did not do his genius any justice.

His tweet read, "Deeply saddened to hear of Abdul Qadir's passing. My prayers & condolences go to the family. Abdul Qadir was a genius, one of the greatest leg-spinners of all time. And he was also the life of dressing room entertaining the team with his wit & humour."

"Qadir's bowling statistics do not justice to his genius. Had he been playong cricket now with the modern DRS system, where batsen can be given out on the front foot as well, Qadir would have gotten as my wickets as the great Shane Warne."

Qadir was known for his unique run-up and his bowling style which foxed several top-quality batsmen during his playing days. His bowling figures of 9/56 is a record for the best bowling figures in Test cricket by any Pakistan bowler.

After retiring from international cricket, Abdul Qadir set up a private cricket academy near Lahore's Gadaffi Stadium. Later, he served as the chief selector for Pakistan for six months.
