Indian skipper Virat Kohli became the first player in the world to score 20,000 international runs across formats in one decade during his knock of 114 in the third ODI against Windies on August 14 at Trinidad.

The right-hander now has 20,502 runs in all formats, out of which he has scored 20,018 runs from 2010. Kohli made his Test and T20I debut in 2010, but he had made his ODI debut in 2008, scoring 484 runs from his debut till 2010.

Kohli's feat takes him ahead of Australian Ricky Ponting's accomplishment, who had previously held the record for the most runs scored in a decade with 18,962 runs, which he scored in the 2000s.

South Africa's Jacques Kallis is third on the list, with Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkar from Sri Lanka following suit. Sachin Tendulkar is sixth in the list, while Rahul Dravid rounds off the top seven players with most runs in a decade.

What makes Kohli's achievements even more special is that he has four more months to add to the run-tally.

After winning the series against Windies, Kohli, who got his 43rd ton in 99 balls said, "I have been around for a while. Experience counts in pressure situations, understanding where the game is heading and what I need to do in terms of the tempo of the game.

"So you obviously want to take a lot of pride in stepping up for the team as much as you can and I definitely take a lot of pride in that."
