Fortnite gets banned on Apple App Store for five years

Epic Games and Apple both companies have been indulged in lawsuits for a long time and now in the latest development, Tim Sweeney the CEO of Epic has revealed that Apple has rejected the request to reinstate Epic’s developer's accounts. Apple has banned Fortnite from the App Store because of the legal battle between the two companies.

On his social media accounts, Sweeney unveiled the letter he received from Apple. According to the letter, Epic’s request for a developer program account reinstated is rejected by Apple. As we all know, an Apple Developer Account is required by the developer to list their apps on the iOS platform and the rejection of such a request is certain to mean that the developer will not be able to list their apps on the App store.

Apple says that the request will not be considered until the district court’s judgment becomes final and non-appealable. ” Meanwhile, Sweeney said that the legal battle might go up to five years, which means Fortnite is not going to be returning to the App Store for the next five years.

“Apple lied. Apple spent a year telling the world, the court, and the press they’d "welcome Epic’s return to the App Store if they agree to play by the same rules as everyone else". Epic agreed, and now Apple has reneged in another abuse of its monopoly power over a billion users,” reads Swenney’s tweet.

The legal battle between the two companies began when Epic pushed charges against Apple’s 30 percent payment free structure. Long story short, Apple charges 30 percent commission from all the developers on each digital transaction and Epic didn’t like it. Epic raised its voice against Apple by bringing its payment option on the iOS app, which led to Apple removing Fortnite from the App Store and the gaming company filed a lawsuit against Apple.

Amid all this chaos Epic lost its Apple Developer Account and Fortnite became unavailable on all the Apple devices. The lawsuit seems to be in favour of Epic and the Judge ruled that an external payment system should be allowed on apps that are available on the App Store.
