FIFA 22 will be the last football game from EA sports with the name FIFA
EA Sports's FIFA game is extremely famous among gamers and football enthusiasts. But it seems that FIFA 22 might be the last game from EA sports with the moniker FIFA in it as the company is planning to drop the FIFA branding. The brand name comes from the Fédération Internationale de Football Association, which is a global footballing body, and EA has an agreement with them to use the name. But now the company is planning to drop the name from next year. Although the company has not mentioned which name they will be using instead of FIFA, it is expected that the new 2023 game will be called the "EA sports FC" because this name is frequently used by EA in its football games.
Cam Weber, the general manager of EA sports group said on the company's official blog post, "Looking forward, we are exploring new ideas for renaming our global EA sports football game." He further added that "The company is reviewing its naming rights agreement with FIFA. Our agreement with FIFA is completely separate from all the other partnerships and licenses that we have in the world of football."
EA Sports just announced this news after celebrating its FIFA 22 success with over 9.1 million players since its launch. EA Sports also has more than 300 deals apart from FIFA, and the company confirmed that FIFA rebranding will not affect any other licenses that they possess. This means that the new football game from EA Sports will also come with over 17000 sportspersons, more than 700 teams, and over 100 plus stadiums. The new football game from EA Sports will also host more than 30 different tournaments.
EA Sports had FIFA branding since 1993, but lately, the name has become so much controversial especially after FIFA 2018 Russia and 2022 Qatar world cup bids. There was much news about corruption and money laundering. Plus many high-ranking officials stated about wire fraud and racketeering. Although EA Sports has not mentioned any reason behind dropping its FIFA branding.
Whatever might be the reason behind leaving FIFA's name, but there is one thing for sure that the new football game from EA sports will not be the "FIFA 23" which is really sad for lots of football and gaming fans out there.
