The popular social media platform Twitter has already witnessed a huge backlash from the Indian government in the last couple of months and now it seems that the micro-blogging website is again making headlines for similar reasons. Twitter has once again shown a distorted map of India on its website and this time it's showing Jammu & Kashmir and Ladhak removed from the Indian map. It seems that the social media platform has no chill and again it has fueled another controversy.

The map without Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir has appeared under the Tweet Life section as a new country itself. According to a report, the centre has issued a strict notice to the online social media platform - warning it to remove the distorted map from the website or else strict action will be taken against the platform.

Why is Twitter showing a distorted map of India

Notably, Twitter has not done this for the first time with the Indian map as back in November 2020 it was reported that the platform has labelled the Indian territory of Leh in Ladakh as the People’s Republic of China. National security analyst Nitin A Gokhale has pointed out this blunder in 2020 and immediately reported it against the micro-blogging website.

Gokhale had marked his location as ‘Hall of Fame Leh’, but Twitter represented the area as PRC (People’s Republic of China). “Nitin A Gokhale was live. Jammu and Kashmir, People’s Republic of China,” reads the screenshot of his video.

It seems the government of India has warned CEO Jack Dorsey regarding this misrepresentation of the Indian map which is misleading. Twitter issued an apology and removed the image of the distorted map along with all the related tweets. Twitter is already having a long list of issues with the Indian government and it’s still making mistakes like this which might not be a piece of good news for it.

It’s not clear whether it was a mistake or the social media website is doing all this to irritate the government. Recently it was in a tussle with the government for new IT rules and now this. Twitter is a platform where you can find almost everything and we don’t want to lose it for reasons like this.
