HyperX, the gaming peripherals team at HP is known for a wide range of gaming accessories. The company has recently launched its mechanical gaming keyboard called the Alloy Origins in the Indian market. Though the company launched this keyboard long back in the global market it took some time to reach the Indian shore. As the gaming industry has boomed in the last couple of years many big players in the market offer an array of products that might lure your attention and HyperX Alloy Origins is also one of them.

Folks at HyperX decided to send one unit to use so that I can get the hands-on experience of the Alloy Origins. I have used the keyboard for a good three weeks and the article which you are currently reading is also from the HyperX Alloy Origins. In the span of three weeks, I have used the device thoroughly and decided to share my experience with the mechanical keyboard. I bought you the comprehensive review of the HyperX Alloy Origins which might help you in making your purchase easier in case you are assuming that it's a good one or not.

HyperX Alloy Origins: Design

Design-wise we must say that the HyperX Alloy Origins is a simple looking keyboard, unless you plug it with your PC you won’t be able to figure out it's a gaming keyboard, but we can’t deny the fact that it’s well crafted and feels good to type. Once you connect it with your PC or laptop you will get the actual look of the mechanical key, it’s a wonderful looking RGB gaming keyboard that comes with customizable RGB support. The company has integrated the RGB keys on the device itself so that you need not have to rush to the software for controlling them.

Long story short, everything is at your fingertips, you can control the brightness of the LEDs and change the pattern as per your requirement. It does come with a heavy metal build which makes it stable on the desk while you are indulged in intense gaming. At the back, it comes with a dual stand setting which helps you in raising the keyboard in three adjustable keyboard angles. I usually used the device in level two because it's more feasible for me to handle it that way. However, the only thing which I missed during the testing phase was a wrist rest which might have made it more convenient for me. It weighs around 1Kgs with sleek looking keys.

HyperX Alloy Origins: How does it perform

Let’s talk business, Yes! You got it correct how it types and performs. As I have mentioned about the HyperX Alloy Origins, turned out to be a really impressive keyboard for me when it comes to typing. It uses the company’s in-house mechanical switches and the HyperX blue switches are the cherry on the cake. If you’re into the profession of writing then this keyboard will not miss a single chance to impress you. In everyday writing, I have observed that the response rate of the keys are impressive and that makes it comfortable for me to use.

So far I haven’t missed a chance to get my hands away from the HyperX Alloy Origins. I have played numerous single person shooting games like PUBG, Fortnite, Resident Evil, World War Z, Call of Duty, and more and I must appreciate the keyboard for its accurate response. But I must say that the HyperX blue switches make a lot of noise and during my entire gaming session my entire house knows that I’m taking down enemies like anything even if I'm not uttering a single word. But we can’t help it, mechanical keyboards tend to make noise but the global variant of HyperX Alloy Origins comes with Hyper X red switches which are said to be quieter than the blue keys. In the below table I get you some minor differences in the responses of HyperX Red and HyperX Blue blue keys.

HyperX Alloy Origins: Connectivity

The HyperX Alloy Origins offers some of the premium features and it does score good marks with the inclusion of the detachable USB Type-C cable. This a blessing for gaming enthusiasts who carry their gaming gears for esports tournaments and for other purposes. With HyperX Alloy Origins now you need not have to worry about stressing the joint between the cable and keyboard all you need to do is to detach it and pack it separately. In case you misplace the cable then all you need to order is a USB Type-C cable and boom you are back in the game. It also comes with a little display on the top-right corner that shows which keyboard profile you're using.

HyperX NGenuity

NGenuity is software developed by the company which is currently in beta form but you can still use it. More importantly, the HyperX Alloy Origins is compatible with the software. Gaming enthusiasts can use NGenuity for resitting the keys, customizing the keyboard’s RGB lights, creating macros, and more. All you need to do is to download the software on your PC and start using it, there is no rocket science as the UI of the software is very user friendly.

Thoughts about HyperX Alloy Origins: Buy it or look for something else?

HyperX Alloy Origins comes with a price tag of Rs 8,290 on Amazon India which seems to be a great price for a mechanical keyboard that performs well. With HyperX Alloy Origins the company has managed to tick almost all the boxes which make it one of the most reliable gaming keyboards. If you have a budget of somewhere near 8K then I must suggest you go with the HyperX Alloy Origins.

During the entire testing phase, I haven’t witnessed a single lag in terms of key response, typing on this keyboard makes you feel comfortable. While talking about the gaming part, technically the keyboards never put me down and all the gameplay experiences were doubled up thanks to the HyperX Alloy Origins. The only drawback of the keyboard is the missing wrist rest and too loud key noise. The wrist rest can be added as an accessory but you need to accept the noise. Long story short, it's a great gaming keyboard with an array of features and this can be your gaming partner if you’re willing to purchase it.
