Adil Hussain is an Indian actor, who is known for acting in international and national films. He was born on 5th October 1963, in an Assamese Muslim family in Goalpara. His father was a teacher. Adil acted in school plays. He studied philosophy at B. Borooah College, Guwahati. He started acting in college plays and performing as a stand-up comedian. He studied at the National School of Drama. He also studied at the Drama Studio London on a Charles Wallace India Trust Scholarship. He started his career in theatre. He started his stage career in Delhi, though he continued training under Khalid Tyabji. After Tyabji, he trained with Swapan Bose at Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Puducherry, before starting training with Dilip Shankar in Delhi. He made his Bengali movie debut with Iti Srikanta in 2004. He also acted in some Assamese, Tamil, Marathi and English films. He acted in several movies, such as Jasoos Vijay, Pita Putra, In Othello, Kaminey, English Vinglish, Agent Vinod, Life of Pi, Lootera, The Violin Player, Parched Delhi, etc. Apart from acting, he is the Artistic Director and Trainer of the Society for Artists and Performers in Hampi from 2004 to 2007, and a visiting faculty at the Royal Conservatory of Performing Arts, The Hague. He is also a visiting faculty at his alma mater, the National School of Drama. He was awarded several awards along with a National Award for his acting and performance.
