Author Taslima Nasreen labels Zaira Wasim's decision to quit acting as 'moronic'; Read Details

In a detailed post on Instagram, Zaira Wasim cited religious reasons for her decision to quit her promising career in Bollywood.

Actress Zaira Wasim of Dangal fame left scores of fans and fellow film industry members surprised and shocked when she announced her disassociation from the field of acting yesterday. Soon after, Zaira became one of Twitter's top trends as reactions from all over began pouring in. While some applauded the actress for taking such a huge step at only 18 years of age, many others criticised and blamed Zaira's religion for this extreme step. In a detailed post on Instagram, Zaira cited religious reasons for her decision to quit her promising career in Bollywood.

She wrote, "As I complete 5 years today, I want to confess that I am not truly happy with this identity, that is, my line of work. For a very long time now it has felt like I have struggled to become someone else. This field indeed brought a lot of love, support, and applause my way, but what it also did was to lead me to a path of ignorance, as I silently and unconsciously transitioned out of 'Imaan' (a Muslim's steadfast path in Allah's devotion)."

One of the many people who found Zaira's step a little too extreme was author Taslima Nasreen. Taking to Twitter, Taslima lashed out at Zaira Wasim calling her decision moronic. "Oh My Goosebumps! Bollywood’s  talented actress Zaria Wasim now wants to quit acting because she thinks her acting career almost destroyed her  faith in Allah. What a moronic decision! So many talents in Muslim community are forced to go under the darkness of the burqa," Nasreen tweeted.

However, Jammu and Kashmir politician Omar Abdullah came to Zaira's defence and said, "Who are any of us to question @ZairaWasimmm’s choices? It’s her life to do with as she pleases. All I will do is wish her well & hope that what ever she does makes her happy."

Since her debut, Zaira has time and again been trolled on social media for her choices in the public eye. Her upcoming film with Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar, The Sky Is Pink, will be her final project.

No body can cares she do or not to do. This is maya nagari it's running always. If you are there or not

If she don't want to do films and quit the Bollywood industry then quit no body can stopped her to do this. But not became news and sympathy. This your own decision but not grows trp. World cannot stop without her. Jay hind

Great brave decision

What is rubbish,do whatever want to do

Bollywood can really change things drastically. A point comes where the conflict with the exterior & interior persona can really go out of hand. Zaira must be experiencing such a conflict. To find a resolution, she must have opted out; quoting what framed her personality - her religion. This also points out her middle class conservative upbringing. What is right for her, need not be right for others actresses of the same religion in the industry. All the best to Zaira. Be Happy, always.

If she wants to quit why she is publicising she can quit it quitlu

What is Twitter about? Expressing your thoughts. That's exactly what she did. Its not Instagram

Never seen this person’s film(S). Although it looks like she basking on the social media publicity for a trivial reason. Her 15 mins of fame let her enjoy while it last !
Tomorrow she will be Zaria who!

If zaira wants to take a break or switch careers ,that’s great for her , majority of human beings do end up switching their careers at some point in their life for their own betterment . Why shouldn’t zaira have the freedom to do the same ? I support zaira and every other male and female from any career to change their paths !

So unless women force themselves to work in Bollywood or have a high powered career they won’t get any respect from other women ? Zaira did what she wanted to when it came to acting in films ,now she’s doing what she wants to by changing profession . That’s called freedom and feminism ! Choose what u like to do ,and have the opportunity to switch careers or lifestyle when necessary .

How does taslima decide whether or not zaira made right decision for her own life or not ? Why does this Taslima assume zaira is brainwashed or forced ? Zairas family looks quite progressive and liberal , it just seems like a case of learning ,growing and changing with age.

Has this taslima nasreen read the Quran or is she basing her useless comments on the information she gets from news channels. Live and let live.

who is she(Zaira Wasim) and who cares...just two films old...nobody is affected by her decision..these kind of regressive attitude ppl are not anyone cup of tea.Stop giving so much of importance to such regressive ppl

She (Zaira Wasim) is a National Award winner ...nobody is affected by what you say in YOUR regressive attitude, shove it off!
