Google Doodle honours the evergreen Madhubala on her 86th Birth Anniversary

Today is Madhubala’s 86th birth anniversary, and Google Doodle surprised everyone with a beautiful tribute for the evergreen actress. Take a look.

Google celebrates every special occasion with a doodle. Today, it did the same for one of the most beautiful and talented actresses of her time who is none other than Madhubala. On her 86th birthday, Google Doodle paid a beautiful tribute the Mughal-E-Azam’s Anarkali. The gorgeous actress was lovingly known as the Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood. But, many don’t know that Madhubala was just her screen name. Born in Delhi as Mumtaz Jehan Begum Dehlavi in 1933, she was raised in the slums of Bombay (now Mumbai).

Madhubala appeared as a child artist in films and her first film was at the tender age of 9. Post this, she starred in Neel Kamal as Madhubala. She was the bread-earner of her family and helped her parents and four sisters. She worked on over 70 films in her short yet successful career in the Indian Film Industry. Her most notable contributions are in movies like Mahal, Mughal-E-Azam, Taran and more. She wasn’t just a brilliant actress but also a wonderful human. Her career was handled by her father who didn’t like her closeness with her co-star Dilip Kumar.

In 1952, she was given the title of “The Biggest Star in the World” by Theatre Arts Magazine. She even appeared on a postage stamp of India in 2008 as an honour bestowed upon her for her contribution to cinema. Her candour, chemistry and brilliant acting moved everyone to tears in many of her films. However, her acting career was cut short after she fell ill and passed away on February 23, 1969. During that time, she was working in a film with Raj Kapoor which was then shelved. Post her demise, she is still remembered for her impeccable sense of acting be it in comedies or romantic films. Thus, on her 86th birthday, Google Doodle honoured her with a heartfelt tribute.
