The happy part of the year has officially kick-started. Last week India celebrated the festival of Eid, Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day. This period of the year brings together all the communities and unites them in making them one. This definitely is the speciality and beauty of this diverse country. Come 24th August and it’s time for Janmashtami. The happy and playful time when the only task is to break the dahi-handi and celebrate the festival with everyone. The essence of this festival lies in the fact that it is Krishna’s birthday. He is easily one of the most followed and loved Gods. Known for his calm and composed mind, his naughty behaviour and his ever helpful nature makes him a complete favourite.

No festival is ever complete without the use of songs and what better than Bollywood songs. For years now B’Town has celebrated the happy spirit of Janmashtami. Listed below are songs which are perfect for this event. Check them out!

Maiyya Yashoda

This one screams nostalgia and probably the only song most of us relate with the most. Maiyya Yashoda from Hum Saath Saath Hai is iconic on so many levels. Pictured on Karisma Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, this song captures the playfulness of Krishna and also sees the ‘Gopiyans’ complaining against the ‘Natkhat laal’.

Mach gaya shor saari nagri rey!

There can be no list which can be complete with out mentioning the great living legend Amitabh Bachchan. Mach gaya shor saari nagri rey is from the film Khud-Daar which features the great Mr. Bachchan. The film is a naughty take on Krishna and Radha’s relationship wherein the former would pull the latter’s leg with his antics.

Radha

This new age number from the film Student of the Year is perfect for all the happening desi functions and ceremonies but the most for Janmashtami. The song de[icts the beauty of Radha and everything is written keeping her in mind. Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra and Rishi Kapoor are seen shaking a leg on this track.

Go go go Govinda

This fun spirited and new age Bollywood song perfectly captures the upbeat tune and mood of Dahi Handi. The song features in Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal starrer, OMG - Oh My God! Sonakshi Sinha makes a happy appearance in the song where she is seen shaking a leg with dancing legend Prabhu Deva.

Radha kaise na jale

Another popular track that most of us have danced to. Radha Kaise Na Jale features in the film Lagaan, featuring Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh in this Ashutosh Gowariker directorial. The song captures Radha’s mood complaining about Krishna’s flirtatious behaviour with all the other gopiyans.

Govinda Aala Re

The most played track while breaking the ‘dahi handi’. Govinda Aala Re is foot-tapping track which is sung by none other than Mohammed Rafi. The song is from the film, Bluff Master, featuring Shammi Kapoor, Saira Banu, Pran and Lalita Pawar. The song levels up the mood and perfectly blends in with the enthusiastic and lively vibe of the festival.

Shor mach gaya shor dekho aaya makhan chor

Shor mach gaya shor dekho aaya maakhan chor manages to pump you up and perfectly puts together the energy of Janmashtami. The song is sung by the evergreen Kishore Kumar and features in the action film Badla.

Yashomatti maiyya se bole nandlala

This song definitely manages to melt one’s hearts. This soulful song from Satyam Shivam Sundaram showcases how Krishna when he was a kid was worried about his dark complexion. His elder brother and friends would compare his complexion to that of Radha’s.

With a complete playlist in hand, we are sure that music is definitely not going to be a problem this time. Which song is your favourite from the above mentioned list? Comment below and let us know. Happy Janmashtami!
