Krishna Janmashtami is the day of the birth of Lord Krishna. According to the Hindu calendar, Lord Krishna was born on Ashtami (8thday) in the Krishna paksha in the month of Shravan at dark midnight. It is believed that Lord Krishna was the 8th avatar of Lord Vishnu hence he is been known as teacher, mentor, philosopher, God, lover, supreme power, etc. not just that, Lord Krishna is worshipped by the devotees of the Hindu religion from the ancient time for his different roles and teachings such as The Bhagavad Gita.

So, each year on Janmashtami, a huge celebration is carried out. It is the day of spreading laughter and happiness. In many parts of India, this auspicious day is celebrated by organizing the Raas Leela and Dahi Handi to a great level to show the dramatic performance of the life of Krishna. Many people decorate the swing (Jhoola) of Lord Krishna with flowers. They also offer Chhappan Bhog to the God which is a plate having a collection of fifty-six dishes which have all kinds of sweet and savoury delicacies.

In many parts of India, devotees give a bath to the Krishna idol and decorate it with new clothes and accesories. People from the birthplace of Lord Krishna celebrate this festival in a traditional way and do a huge preparation for Jhanki.

Janmashtami will be celebrated by Hindus all over India as well as abroad on 24th August, Saturday.

 

Krishna Janmashtami 2019 Shubh Mahurat:

For this year, the duration of the Pooja is 45 minutes. Pooja timing would start at 12.07 am in the dark midnight and end at 12.52 am in the night.
