Republic Day 2019: Here's how India will celebrate its 70th Republic Day at Rajpath

Scripting history, a woman officer would be leading the Army Services Corps in the Republic Day parade this year.

India will mark the occasion of Republic Day this Saturday on January 26,2019. It will be India's 70th Republic Day and preparations are underway for the Republic Day parade that will be held in the national capital. President Ram Nath Kovind will lead the Republic Day celebrations by hoisting the Indian flag and taking the salute. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host South African President Cyril Ramaphosa who is slated to be the chief guest at Rajpath. The highlight of the celebrations on Saturday, like every year, will be the 90-minute Republic Day parade.    

The parade is an extensive and extravagant affair and is attended by the common man, politicians as well as renowned personalities from different fields. On display are various state tableaux which add  to the fervour and brighten up the Republic Day parade. This year, the parade will be a dazzling display of ''Nari Shakti'' (woman power) with an all-women Assam Rifles contingent in the lead and a woman officer performing bike stunts on Rajpath as part of an iconic daredevil team. Scripting history, a woman officer would be leading the Army Services Corps in the 2019 Republic Day parade.

Apart from women being at the forefront of the parade, there will be 58 tribal guests from various parts of the country, 22 tableaux of states and central government departments, and performance by school children. As many as 26 national award winning children, seated in open jeeps, will also form part of the cultural pageant.

On Saturday, PM Narendra Modi will lay the wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate. This year also marks the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi who had close links with South Africa.The tableaux performances will also pay a tribute to the Father of the Nation.
