Republic Day 2019: Highlights of the Republic Day Parade at Rajpath

Republic Day 2019: As India celebrates it’s 70th Republic Day, we bring you all the highlights of the annual parade that took place at Rajpath in the national capital.

As India celebrates its 70th Republic Day today, like every year, the annual parade in the national capital took place as a mark of India’s rich cultural heritage and traditions. As 2019 marks the year of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary, therefore, the central theme of this year’s celebrations was Mahatma Gandhi. As the protocol goes, before the parade, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, paid homage to the martyrs by laying a floral wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti.

Thereafter, at Rajpath, Narendra Modi received the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind and the Chief Minister at the Republic Day, South Africa’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa. Later, the President of India hoisted the national flag as the national anthem played and 21-gun salute was fired by seven cannons of 2281 Field Regiment. President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the people on the occasion.

 

The flypast kick-started with the Rudra formation comprising of three ALH Mk IV WSI helicopters and featured Sukhois, MiG fighter jets.

The transformation of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi to Mahatma Gandhi was showcased by the Indian Railways.

Led by Subedar Major Ramesh, 33 people and 9 motorcycles formed a human pyramid and a women officer exhibited bike stunts as part of the team. Also, the Republic Day parade also included 26 children who won the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar
