The significance of Sawan Somwar:

Fasting on Mondays during this period is said to bring about desired results. It is said that Lord Shiva blesses people who keep the fast, with good health and always protects them from evil and all things bad. He also helps them gain success at this time in their lives.

Unmarried girls are especially known to keep this fast as they are known to be rewarded with a good husband and that they would get married to the person of their choice.

It is also believed that Goddess Parvati kept the fast in order to get married to Lord Shiva, which is what encourages more people to follow this method.
