Sawan 2019: Do’s and don’ts that every devotee follows during the holy month

Sawan is the most auspicious month for Hindus in India. All major festivals and days get celebrated during the month. In this holy month, devotees devoted Lord Shiva and fast for days together. While doing so, here are some do’s and don’ts that the devotees of Lord Shiva follow. Find out

The Sawan month is synonymous with auspicious festivals and events. According to Hindu literature, it is the best time to conduct all holy and religious ceremonies as most days in the month are considered holy. In this holy month, devotees devoted Lord Shiva. 

 

While Shravan maas’ ruling deity is Lord Shiva which is why all-important Lord Shiva poojas and ceremony are held during this month. For the whole month, devotees fast and keep ‘vrats’ for in order to please the Lord. According to the Shiva Purana, those who observe fast in this Shravan Maas, Lord Shiva will bless them and fulfilled their desires.

However, people can’t fast for the whole month and therefore, every Monday is observed as a fast day for the devotees. Every Monday is thus considered auspicious and is known as ‘Shravan Somwar’.

 

While the devotees keep fasting, here are some do’s and don’ts that they follow during the holy month according to Catch News:

 

DO’S:

- People eat or drink the food made up of milk like curd, tea, burfi.

- Devotees eat permitted foods like sabudana, rajgiri atta, sweet potato and nuts.

- Many people eat food only one time while some eat twice, it depends on the strength of an individual.

- They wake up early in the morning to offer prayers to Lord Shiva.

- Visit the temple every day to offer prayers.

- Recite Om Namah Shivaya mantra while doing pooja.

- Read vrat katha every Monday.

DON’TS:

- Devotees do not eat food made out of onion and garlic.

- They don’t eat non-veg food and also egg.

- They don't drink alcohol during the holy month.

- No shaving during Sawan.

- They don't break their fast in between.
