This month, also known as the month of Shravan or Sawan, is one of the most auspicious months of the year according to Hindu mythology. This period begins from July 17 and goes on till August 15 and is considered the best time to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. During this period, the Lord's devotees conduct holy practices and perform fasts and various other things to try to fulfill the Lord's needs and desires. Though the entire month is considered holy or auspicious, Mondays or Sawan ka Somwar, is the most important. 

Monday is the main day when fasts and rituals should be observed as this day holds special importance in Hindu mythology. But there is no stringent rule that one needs to follow - it differs from individual to individual. While some people prefer not to eat or drink anything all day, others believe that it is okay to consume water, milk, juices, fruits etc. Others, eat only one meal on that day without salt. 

Planning meals during this time needs to be top priority as it is essential for the body to have enough strength to function despite not consuming enough food. This season is all about observing a satvik lifestyle which includes not consuming anything tamasik whether it is food or drinks.

Dry fruits like dates, rasins, nuts. etc.

Food with salt

Garlic

Onions

Alcohol

Meat

Brinjal/Eggplant
