Tanmay Bhat of AIB REVEALS he is depressed and feels almost paralysed after #MeToo mess; Watch Video

Recently, co-founder of AIB Tanmay Bhat shared a string of videos on social media stating how he is a mess and feels almost paralysed after the #MeToo case

Last year in October, comedian Tanmay Bhat was in the news for not acting against sexual harassment allegations made against comic Utsav Chakraborty during the #MeToo movement. Ever since then, he has been inactive on social media. A month ago, comedy collective AIB announced that Tanmay will step down from the position of CEO. Now, in a recent post the comedian has revealed that he is suffering from clinical depression.

In a series of videos uploaded on his social media handle, Tanmay shared, “I think after everything that happened in October, I just mentally checked out and I feel almost paralyzed and unable to participate socially, online and offline. I think a big part of my self-worth growing up as someone who looked like me, became my work.” He continued to say, “For most of my adult life I worked at a company that I was trying to build. Having to watch and letting the office go, all the people who worked with us, having to say goodbye to a lot of that took a toll on me mentally and physically, which finally came to a headway somewhere around the end of last year. The doctors told me that I was diagnosed with clinical depression and maybe I should consider doing something about it.”

Opening up about the state of paralysis, the comedian said, “It's been a few months since the doctor told me to start medication. I honestly sometimes get super worried that this state of paralysis is permanent. I sometimes feel I might never get back to being who I was or operating to my potential.”

He went on to thank everyone who had written to him and shared that it was nice to know people are still out there who are rooting for him. “I am still clueless about any answers to questions like when will I be back and doing what. I don't know. I'm still feeling extremely paralysed to even put out this message because in my head no one wants to work with a depressed comedian and that's an oxymoron. But I think at some point I just got to get up and start fixing this stuff. And I owed you guys a thank you. That's all for now and yeah.”

How I see is that AIB got their fame from a satire on rape supporting woman, but I guess social commentary can make you a good comedian but not a good person if it's just play of words for you and the message and soul of content doesn't resonate with you as a creator. He is depressed because he has been mocking everyone to woo the audience and now he became one himself and that too only after the incident got public. And as far as your logic of punching up in comedy goes, you are indeed privileged and so will become a mockery for young comedian I guess. This will be your legacy.

good luck Tanmay. People please be kind with your comments.

Who cares!!!

yes lets support the perpetrator instead of the victim.
