Earth Day: Here is the importance of the environmental event; Read more

International Mother Earth Day is celebrated on 22nd April every year. This day is celebrated to appreciate the uniqueness and diversity of the planet Earth and how it nurtures all the species.

Earth Day is one of the most important environmental events of the year. In 2009, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution and declared 22nd April as the “International Mother Earth Day”. The resolution was adopted to state the motive of sustainable development strongly again. It was also taken into consideration to know more about the role of Earth as a mother, who supports, gives strength and cares about all the species, including humans, animals and plants.

The term "Mother Earth” is used to show the pure and deep relationship between all the plants, human and animal species on our planet. Moreover, to signify the earth's role in nurturing all of them. The theme of the World Earth Day 2019 is “Protect Our Species”. It will focus majorly on protecting species which are on the verge of extinction due to factors like climatic changes, deforestation, pollution and poaching. This significant day is celebrated in more than 192 countries every year. On this day, several activities are conducted in schools, colleges and different organizations.

Environmental activists will organize different rallies on the special occasion to make people aware of saving the earth so that the biodiversity is safe for us to live. This day marks the importance of our planet as it needs to be saved from global warming too. The main focus is to plant more and more trees, protect the endangered and save the extinct species and take care of our mother earth. NASA will also celebrate the World Earth Day by keeping a photo contest with hashtag #PictureEarth. The contestants will have to take a picture of nature and post on social media with the same hashtag. The best winning photos will be showcased on NASA’s blog today.
