The Chinese people celebrated their Lunar New Year on Tuesday, February 5, 2019. During the Lunar New Year, the Chinese people host family dinners and get-togethers to welcome their last zodiac sign which is the Pig. A lot of people celebrated the festival with lots of enthusiasm in cities like Beijing and Shanghai.
Though the celebrations had lots of joy and happiness, this year, it was more of a quiet affair due to fireworks banned by the authorities last year due to pollution. The Lunar New Year is a very important holiday for people in China. Many people also travel to the country to celebrate it with their family and friends. This year too, it was celebrated at a greater extent.
As reported by iol.co.za, the Chinese authorities were expecting at least 3 billion trips by cars, trains and aeroplanes this year. Along with dinner parties and get-togethers, some people also watch a marathon televised gala on this day. The children are gifted envelopes with money inside it during the Lunar New Year.
