Bigg Boss 19 contestant Pranit More has been in the middle of a controversy. Following days of intense public outrage over a controversial stand-up clip, it seems like the comedian has decided to log off from social media.
Pranit More deactivates his Instagram account
Pranit More, who recently found himself in the eye of a massive storm, has deactivated his Instagram account. This major move comes after relentless trolling and criticism from netizens over a viral crowdwork video that was alleged to be misogynistic.
For the unversed, the controversy ignited when a clip from Pranit’s live comedy show surfaced online. An audience member, identified as 23-year-old Gurugram-based web developer Himanshu Jangra, shared an anecdote about his recent date.
Jangra narrated how he spent Rs 370 on a plate of chicken biryani for a woman and felt entitled to a ‘return on his investment’. He further detailed how he manipulated the reluctant woman into accompanying him to a park at night.
Instead of shutting down the highly problematic statement, Pranit laughed it off, calling it ‘peak Gurgaon content.’ The internet did not take this lightly. The clip spread like wildfire, triggering conversation around consent and toxic masculinity.
Soon after, many influencers and social media personalities took to their handles, calling out the comedian for engaging in the conversation rather than calling the man out. The aftermath of the viral video led to Jangra’s prompt removal from his workplace.
Soon after the outrage, Pranit issued a formal apology statement admitting to a ‘lapse in judgment’ and stating he should have challenged the remark instead of laughing. But seems like the fans didn’t think his apology was genuine.
Hence, when the trolling continued days after him taking responsibity of his act, the Bigg Boss 19 contestant, who appeared with Tanya Mittal, deleted his Instagram account. While his secondary account (@maharashtrianbhau) remains active, his main profile is not to be found.
