Punit Pathak was declared the winner of Khatron Ke Khiladi Season 9 yesterday, and while everyone thinks he is indeed the much-deserved winner, he has had his share of a journey during the show. He got in touch with Hindirush, and spoke at length about his journey, how the audiences knew well in advance that he is the winner and a little about the controversies that transpired during the show. Punit also revealed his learnings at the end of the show and many other things.

When you were announced the winner, what were the feelings like?

My performance throughout the show has been good, but every stunt is important. So it was like the last ball, and I need six runs. And now, the result could be anything, a six or a flat out, and it is important to get those six runs. It doesn’t matter what you have done, and in the last stunt, I did not expect that I will win, I kept it a blank slate.

The audiences were aware of you being the winner?

This was live and my heartbeats were going up and down while we were live. I am so glad that people thought I am deserving, and I have managed to perform so well that I have got only one fear fanda throughout, has created history by performing a stunt that no one has done in the nine seasons. I think that is why people thought that I deserve to win. Just imagine, if after all this I hear that someone else win, so I did not think much, and all that was going on in my mind was that I am doing well if I win well and good, if I don’t, I have had a good journey.

Everyone declared you the winner, but who did you think deserved to win if not you?

As I said, the last stunt was such that anyone could have won – Ridhima or Aditya because it wasn’t something like I have to go underwater or something, it was all about chances. It was the finale stunt and they had to keep everyone at level because they did not know who the finalists will be and they kept it neutral. So, anyone could have won, and anyone could have hit that six. But yes, if you see the show as a whole, then Punit and Aditya, the final two were the toughest and the best Khiladis.

This season has seen many people give up on their tasks, and Bharti Singh was trolled for the same too. What do you have to say about this?

Yes, a lot of aborts have happened this season, some of which Rohit (Shetty) sir took all in joke and pushed us but it was all real. If Harrsh is scared of snakes in real, then nothing can be done, if Aly (Goni) got a cramp in real, then we had to abort it. Eventually, whatever happens, happens for good and that is why the show went on to become number one,  and it has also been a record-breaking show this seasons.

Your journey has been inspiring for many. Was there any moment when you felt that I can’t do this stunt, and you passed it on?

Like you said people have appreciated me as their inspiration and have gone on to question how I do it, how I am a mind-blowing performer, etc. The things is I never thought I can’t do this, I always thought I can do it and I always thought that a stuntman has done it before me, and if he can do it, then I can too. It is not about doing it better, but it is about completing the task and that’s it.

Khatron Ke Khiladi has always been a learning lesson for everyone. What has been your learning from the show?

I have learnt that there is a lot of difference between ‘jaldi and jaldbaazi (quick and in a hurry).’ People get confused between the two, and my aim was to finish the task quickly but not in a hurry. I have learnt from the show that if one has control over their mind, then anything is possible, it is all about the mind.
