Diya Aur Baati Hum fame Deepika Singh has had a successful career with her character Sandhya becoming a household name. Deepika took a sabbatical from work to spend some quality time with the family and took a well-deserved maternity break. Deepika is now a proud mother to baby Soham and the actor cites it to be "the phase of her life."
"I did not miss Television even for a minute," said Deepika as she spoke on her maternity break and her pursuit to return to TV with a challenging role.
In an EXCLUSIVE interaction with PINKVILLA, Deepika said that immediately after pregnancy, she wanted to give some time to herself, her baby and her body. And now, she is all set to take up a new project and is meeting people regarding the same.
"For me, I am enjoying my everyday. In fact, as an actor, it is my responsibility to showcase my talent and do something relevant and be a part of a good project. My fans have been messaging me a lot, everywhere I go they ask me when I am planning to come back so I have also started approaching people for projects," Deepika said and added, "The thing is when I delivered my child, I was getting a lot of opportunities but at that time I had gained a bit due to pregnancy. For me, my first responsibility was to myself and my body wasn’t ready to give the kind of time a daily soap demands. So, I thought I will work on myself and then I will think about taking up my next project."
There is a popular opinion on how a woman should look onscreen, does she feel pressurized by it too? "No, not at all," Deepika promptly said. "With the weight gain, my body was not in a position to work for 25-26 days as per the requirements of shows. It is not about weight loss, I used to feel lethargic and was suffering from back pain due to this. When I met the doctor, they told me that it is all because of my weight gain. There are so many good actors who are a bit on the healthier side but they look good. I think for an actor it is all about your eyes and your depth."
She also exclaimed that her family has been extremely supportive in her endeavours.
When asked what kind of roles is she looking for, Deepika stated, "Am not looking for any specific role, I am only looking for a good channel because I believe any role or show becomes popular depending on the team working on it. With a good channel, the show gets good publicity. I don't think so much, or demand so much. I am mostly impulsive with all this. As a TV actor, I think I have got to do the best work. Being an actor, whatever I had to showcase, I did. Now, whatever I get, if the team and the audience support me it will become popular."
But is she ready to stay away from her newborn? To this, Deepika replied, "The baby also has his own life and even when I am home, I spend say 4-5 hours with my baby. I allow him the space to grow. I believe in spending quality time with my child rather than constantly bugging him. My mother and dadi were also a working woman so I did not grow up thinking that only if I am at home that my child will grow. "
She continued, "As a mother, my responsibility is to spend quality time with him and make sure to be with him when he needs me. Even when I do my workout regime in the morning, Soham is around. He watches me and enjoys it."
Lastly, we asked her how has motherhood changed her as a person. Deepika shared, "I have become more emotional and sensitive towards kids. My outlook towards them has changed. Earlier, if kids used to indulge in naughty acts, I used to get irritated but now I laugh at it. In fact, now I cheer them up."
"Motherhood has made every day of mine very happy and joyful day. No negative thoughts cross my mind as I have my child, my companion always smiling at me," she concluded.
