The Election Commission has issued show cause notice to Zee TV and its group channel &TV after Congress complained about TV series of these channels promoting the government's pet schemes. As per Mumbai Mirror, the channels have 24 hours time to reply to the EC. A few days ago, we got to know that Congress had filed a complaint against BJP to the EC. The party said that they are violating the code of conduct. Congress has taken objection to characters that feature in TV shows such as Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai and Tujhse Hai Raabta for praising government schemes such as Ujjwala, Swach Bharat Abhiyan and Mudra Loan among others. As per Congress, the same is a version of paid news. They are also planning to complain about Zee Marathi serial Tula Pahate Re for promoting the Make In India scheme.

Congress' Spokesperson Sachin Sawant welcomed the EC's move and said, "It was a serious matter and the action by the EC was expected. The channels have brazenly violated the code of conduct. I had demanded that the channels should be suspended for the violation".

The spokesperson of the channels defended themselves by saying that the content was in "public interest". However, the channels have not yet responded after the show cause notice. The spokesperson said: "As a responsible national television network, Zee has always created content basis its stringent content guidelines. The mention of certain government schemes and initiatives in some of the episodes of the shows was a creative call taken purely in the interest of the public."
