Jasmin Bhasin is the new entrant in the Naagin world along with Nia Sharma. The fourth season for the supernatural drama is touted to be bigger and better than the last three and is aiming to set new TRP records. Well, in an exclusive chat with Jasmin, we asked her on bagging Naagin 4, what does she think of Nia Sharma playing the parallel lead, the pressure of doing the fourth instalment and the trolls that are to follow. Read excerpts from the interview:
Do you recall your reaction when told you are doing Naagin 4?
When I saw the promo of Naagin 4 (which went up a month back), everyone wondered who the two girls are going to be, even I was curious to know who will play the characters. I remember I was shooting for Khatra Khatra that day, and I get a call and I was surprised. I requested them for narration and that moment I decided that this is what I was looking for and I want to do it. Also, working with Balaji [Telefilms] is a dream. I have grown up in a small city where watching TV is a ritual and Balaji has defined TV in so many ways. I was a big fan of them, so obviously very very excited.
Nia is playing the female lead alongside you. How do you see the offscreen equation with her evolving?
I feel it is great. Both Nia and I are Gen X actors, we share the same vibe. We have known each other before and worked together for Maha-Sangam and did an event together. We haven't been best of friends but we enjoy each other's company. WE feel comfortable around each other, it is great chemistry. I am very happy that it is Nia with me because I am an energy and good vibe kind of a person, I get guarded if the vibe isn't right. But with Nia, it is very fun. When we are not shooting, we are just talking.
How is Naagin 4 different from the previous seasons?
The complete look is new, the story is different and I feel this time it is a very fresh cast also... This year it is going to set another standard for the show, hopefully.
Do you feel the pressure given the precedent last three seasons have set?
Earlier, I had felt a lot of pressure because when there are already set standards, it is a challenge. But as I started shooting for the show, everyone around is so nice; they make you feel comfortable, and now, I don't feel the pressure but enjoying what I am doing. I know that when we enjoy and do, the output is also good.
Naagin is always followed by trolls. Are you prepared for it?
Trolls have never bothered me. I am someone who looks at it and laughs. I am a very happy person. From our PM to everyone is trolled, so we can't take it seriously. I take it in my stride.
Whose reference do you have in mind to play the shape-shifting character?
When you look at somebody, you might try and copy them. I don't believe in it. I believe each character you do, you should add your touch and uniqueness to it. That is what happened in previous seasons too. When Mouni Roy became Naagin or even Adaa Khan, Surbhi Jyoti everybody did it differently, so I want to do it my way as well.
