Pooja Banerjee – the name doesn’t need any introduction. From being a part of MTV Roadies to now winning hearts with her stint in Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Kumkum Bhagya, Pooja has undoubtedly come a long way in her career. During an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla, Pooja got candid about her journey, playing a negative role in shows, and more.
Here are the excerpts of the interview:
From being seen MTV Roadies, to making Ekta Kapoor’s Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Kumkum Bhagya, how to you see your journey?
Well, Gratitude is the word! I certainly feel that destiny too has played a massive role as well. When I did my very first project I was a naive girl who wanted to make it big but then I realised that making big has nothing to do with how many awards I collect. It solely depends on the kind of impact I am creating with my work on the audiences and that’s what matters at the end of the day.
How was your experience with working with Ekta Kapoor, Parth Samthaan and Erica Fernandes?
Ekta ma'am is such an inspiration as she single handedly runs a company comprising so many dimensions. And Parth and Erica are more like a family to me, I feel the team of Kasautii was once in a lifetime because the kind of fun we did during the shoot was something I have never experienced with any of my crew mates earlier. More than just being friends we are a family.
And how about working with Sriti Jha and Shabir Ahluwalia?
I look up to them with immense amount of respect. They are such talented people who pull off all the scenes so effortlessly! It is great fun to watch them act and act with them.
You have played a negative role in Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kumkum Bhagya, is there any apprehension about being typecast?
No, I feel the decision sprang out after I contemplated on the fact that I just don't want to do a similar kind of a role! I want to play roles consisting of all types of genres. Nivedita is very different from Rhea and vice-versa. I want to be known as that actress who moulded herself into any kind of given role just like the clay.
How has been the experience of working during COVID 19 times? Were you apprehensive about working amid the pandemic?
Yes, I would be lying if I say No. But then these times have also taught me a lot as a person where I also got the time to sit back and retrospect. Rectify the things I am lacking at and overcome it. I overcame my fear of driving in the pandemic only to realise that I love driving (laughs)
What is that one thing you have learnt during the lockdown?
Be grateful. We were actually taking things for granted which we failed to realise when everything was normal. The value of living a normal life was actually taken into consideration when what will happen next was the biggest question of the hour. Be greatful for all the small things in your life and prioritise your happiness!
