Television actor and singer Karan Oberoi, who was accused of rape and arrested earlier this week, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody. The court on Thursday rejected police custody giving Oberoi and his friends a glimmer of hope in these trying times. As per a report in Times of India, the bail application is expected to be filed today. The charges against Karan Oberoi, of rape and extortion, have shocked friends and family.

His friends Pooja Bedi and his band members including Sudhanshu Pandey, Sherrin Verghese, Chaitanya Bhosle and Danny Fernandes have stood alongside Karan Oberoi like a rock. They have protested strongly against the charges with Pooja Bedi even urging to start a #MenTooMovement.

On his first appearance in court on Monday, Oberoi reportedly broke down and could not stop sobbing. His lawyer argued in court and pointed out that the woman's statement was inconsistent in nature. The woman, an astrologer by profession, has alleged that Oberoi sedated her then raped her and filmed the entire act. She has also claimed in the FIR that he then began blackmailing her with the footage and extorted money.

At a press conference held by Oberoi's friends, they read out WhatsApp messages which pointed out that Oberoi on mutiple occasions ignored her text messages. According to Oberoi's lawyer, they have submitted a series of text messages that were sent to Oberoi by the woman (victim) as evidence to prove his innocence. Pooja Bedi questioned, "Isn't it clear that the relationship was one-sided and Karan was approached many times with such messages?"
