From being the beloved Chotti Bahu to the fierce winner of Bigg Boss 14, Rubina Dilaik has defined what it means to be a leading lady in the Indian television industry. Rubina Dilaik recalls facing racism in the industry

Before she became a household name, Rubina Dilaik faced intense scrutiny regarding her appearance. She admitted struggling with confidence for years, especially when her natural features were made fun of. “I never had that confidence in my looks,” expressed the diva, adding that she struggled a lot to embrace herself.

When she came into the industry decades ago, she carried baby fat. “People used to call me Himachali seb. They would comment on my baby fat, baby chin,” Rubina divulged.

In the same interview, she further recalled the stinging remark from a director who dismissed her potential as a protagonist. Rubina recalled the incident vividly, “One of the directors once told me, ‘Your face is so negative, you should do negative roles. I don’t think anybody will cast you in a positive role or as a protagonist.'”

At the time, Rubina was also wearing braces, which added to her insecurities. “I thought maybe I was not enough. There were a lot of maybes,” she confessed.

It wasn't until later in her career that Rubina realized her uniqueness was her greatest strength. The actress, who recently became a mother to twin daughters Edhaa and Jeeva, noted that her journey of self-acceptance was important, not just for her career, but as a parent.

She eventually realized that if she had to look like others, then she would not be Rubina Dilaik. “If I cannot acknowledge that, I will not be able to give that to my daughters. It took a great deal to overcome that,” she added. On the work front, Rubina is set to return to the sets of Khatron Ke Khiladi with Season 15 with Jasmin Bhasin. Rubina revealed that both of them are cordial with each other.
