The Indian television and film industry is mourning the loss of veteran character actor Dinyar Tirandaz, who passed away in Mumbai on June 11, 2026, at the age of 69. According to family updates, Tirandaz breathed his last at 3:45 PM at Wadia Bungli in Mumbai. While the exact cause of death has not been publicly disclosed, industry peers noted he had been dealing with prolonged health issues.

Dinyar Tirandaz, a popular TV star is no more with us. It breaks our heart to report that the veteran actor left for his heavenly abode at 69 in Mumbai. Spanning a career that lasted over four decades, Tirandaz built a reputation as one of Indian entertainment's most dependable, warm, and effortlessly funny performers.
Tirandaz made his formal acting debut with the 1984 Ramesh Talwar directorial film Duniya. However, it was the golden era of Doordarshan television that truly turned him into a household name. He became part of Indian television history by featuring in Kundan Shah and Saeed Akhtar Mirza's acclaimed street-corner drama Nukkad. The show, which captured the daily struggles and camaraderie of the lower-income urban class, allowed Tirandaz to showcase his innate ability with gentle humor.
Perhaps his most iconic and culturally enduring performance came in this wildly popular sitcom, Zabaan Sambhal Ke. Portraying Mr. Keki Daruwala, a quirky and lovable Parsi student attempting to learn Hindi, Tirandaz delivered a masterclass in comic timing.
He also lent his versatile acting chops to episodic roles in the legendary detective series, Byomkesh Bakshi, directed by Basu Chatterjee. His notable big-screen credits include Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Hello Brother, Kya Kehna, Albela, Chalte Chalte, and Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?
His final credited screen appearance was in the 2017 Gujarati family drama Wass...up! Zindagi. Alongside his screen work, he was heavily invested in live theatre, co-owning a stage production company alongside his wife. Dinyar Tirandaz's passing marks the end of an era. He leaves behind a rich legacy of laughter.
