KUMBH MELA 2021: WHAT SOCIAL DISTANCING? Thousands violate COVID-19 safety regulations. Videos and photos from the ongoing Kumbh Mela 2021 have gone viral as devotees refused to follow the guidelines set by the government for their safety. Devotees on Monday took a holy dip in River Ganga at Har Ki Pauri in Uttarakhand's Haridwar on the occasion of the second 'Shahi Snan' in Kumbh. The sadhus participated in the Somvati Amavasya Shahi Snan at the Har Ki Pauri in Uttarkhand Haridwar as a part of Kumbh Mela celebrations. As per reports by ANI, Kumbh Mela Inspector General (IG) Sanjay Gunjyal admitted that it is difficult to ensure social distancing norms. "We are continuously appealing to people to follow COVID-19 appropriate behaviour. But due to the huge crowd, it is practically not possible to issue challans today. It is very difficult to ensure social distancing at ghats," Gunjyal said. The first bath was held on 11 March on the occasion of Mahashivratri, while the second was be held on Monday and the third royal bath will take place by the 13 Akhadas on the 14th of April 2021. Uttarakhand reported 1,333 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, taking the total cases in the state to 1,08,812. Despite the ongoing pandemic and the record-breaking high amount of cases, people gathered in huge groups and were seen marching towards the Ganga river without any form of social distancing and mask.
