Over the past few years, with this relatively inexperienced team, Sri Lanka has been unable to make an impact in international cricket. Afghanistan on other hand has won one of their two warm-up matches, but lost their previous match against Australia in a low-scoring game. Sri Lanka lost both their warm-up games as well as their first official match in the tournament.

Match Prediction- Even though it will be a tough encounter between these two teams, Sri Lanka with the form of their captain, Dimuth Karunaratne, will have a slight extra edge in the match. However, with Rashid Khan in their squad, Afghanistan will hope for a low-score match at this venue.

Head to head- It was back in 2015, when Afghanistan last played against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka won that match by 4 wickets.

Apart from the warm-up games, in the last 5 ODI matches, Afghanistan has won 2 matches and lost 2. However, one match was called off due to excess rain.

Sri Lanka on the other hand has lost 3 out of 5 of their last ODI matches and won 1. However, one match was called off.

Predicted playing 11

Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, both the teams, despite losing their first match will probably play their second match with the same squad. Though a few players need to get back to their form, they will probably keep the squad unchanged for this match.

Afghanistan- Hazratullah Zazai, Mohammad Shahzad, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Gulbadin Naib, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Hamid Hassan and Dawlat Zadran

Sri Lanka- Dimuth Karunaratne, Lahiru Thirimanne, Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Dhananjaya de Silva, Jeevan Mendis, Thisara Perera, Isuru Udana, Lasith Malinga and Suranga Lakmal.
