Team India is traveling to England with one of the most power-packed squads; however, there are a few departments where they might find themselves in trouble. The number 4 spot is one among the major concerns for Virat Kohli’s Men in Blue at the all-important World Cup. Over the years, they have tried several options at number 4, though none of them have come up with the desired results. There were huge hues and cries before the announcement of the World Cup squad about this particular batting position. The selectors later surprised many by choosing KL Rahul and Vijay Shankar for this spot instead of Ambati Rayudu and Rishabh Pant.

Although MSK Prasad, Chief Selector, has shown confidence in Rahul and Shankar for the number 4, there are still speculations about who will bat in the middle order for India. Well, apart from them, the names of MS Dhoni and skipper Virat Kohli have also been coined for this position. India's coach, Ravi Shastri had earlier pointed towards going with Kohli at number 4, while MS Dhoni was also sent to bat at the same position for a few times recently.

Going by stats, Kohli has batted at number 4 in 38 ODI innings and scored 1751 runs at an average of 56.48. On the other hand, Dhoni has appeared at this number in 30 ODI innings, scoring 1358 runs at 56.48. Both of them have done quite well at this position. However, before drawing the conclusion, we must check out the other two options as well. KL Rahul, having just played 14 ODIs for India, has batted 3 times at number 4 and scored 26 runs. Shankar likewise played a few cameos at this position recently.

It's very tough to say how Rahul and Shankar will go since they haven't played much of the ODI cricket yet. However, having seen a lot of KL Rahul in IPL and other formats, one can say he does have all the nutrients that are needed to fit for this number. Shankar not having much experience will be a wild-card entry if played at number 4. The right-handed batsman hasn't batted up the order much in the domestic cricket either.

Meanwhile, if India bats either Kohli or Dhoni in the middle, it will be quite tough to handle the number 3 and number 6, considering the importance these two positions have in the ODI cricket. Also, both of them have been quite comfortable at their respective batting numbers, which Men in Blue would not want to mess up with.

So, KL Rahul seems to be best among the lot for the number 4 position for India.
