Steven Smith and David Warner, who faced a year-long ban after ball-tampering, have borne the brunt of fans as they returned to international cricket in the World Cup. After getting booed at the arm-up game between Australia and England, Smith received flak from the Indian fans in their game with India.

Fielding at the deep near the boundary rope, the Indian fans started refering to him as "cheater'. However, Virat Kohli came to his rescue as he turned towards the section of fans and asked them not to boo but cheer him on instead. Gesturing at them to clap for Smith, Kohli won the hearts of all present.

The Indians kipper has often been criticised wrongly for carrying an unpleasant attitude, but time and again, he has answered back with such heart touching actions.

Sam Landsberger noticed this from the stands and took to Twitter to applaud Kohli.

“Wow. How good is this from Virat Kohli? Steve Smith is sent to field on the boundary and immediately cops the most hideous boos from the Indian fans. So Kohli turns to that stand and gestures for them to clap Smith.

Smith and Kohli are often regarded as the two best batsmen of this era and it was refreshing to see a tough competitor come out to support his rival.

Kohli received a lot of love for his gesture as well.
