Hema Malini was born to Jaya Lakshmi Chakravarti and VSR Chakravarti

She was raised in Chennai

She made her Bollywood debut with Sapno Ka Saudagar. She starred opposite Raj Kapoor

She later went on to star in numerous films and made a mark in the industry

Some of her hit films include Sholay, Seeta Aur Geeta, Kranti, Johny Mera Naam, and more

It was her movie 'Dream Girl' that deemed her as Bollywood's ultimate Dream Girl

She is a recipient of many accolades and awards including Padma Shri Award

She met Dharmendra in 1970. Her first film with him was Tum Haseen Main Jawaan

Dharmendra, who was already married, fell in love with Hema and soon the couple tied the knot in 1979

They are parents to Esha Deol, who is an actress and Ahana Deol

In 1999, Hema campaigned for BJP as a candidate, in the Lok Sabha Elections in Gurdaspur, Punjab

In 2004, she officially joined BJP
