Thugs of Hindostan was amongst the highly awaited movies of 2018. With a casting coup of the century, Vijay Krishna Acharya had the grand task of directing two Bollywood stalwarts, Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan in the same film. Also starring Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh in pivotal roles, TOH had a blockbuster Diwali opening day collection of Rs 50 crore. However, the next day itself, the box office collection dwindled down to almost double of Day 1. The weekend collection, last week, was a mere Rs 5 crore, which is very less for the high-budget movie.

On November 29, another big 2018 release is coming, i.e. none other than Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0. After months of constant delays, the sci-fi film, directed by S. Shankar, is finally releasing. In an EXCLUSIVE interview with Pinkvilla, we asked trade expert Girish Johar if the number of screens for Thugs of Hindostan will drastically fall down once 2.0 releases. "It's already come under 1-2 shows this week and this weekend has also not done well - it's been around Rs 5 crores. By next week, it will be like droplets, ek show, which is almost negligible," Girish revealed.

Earlier talking about how nothing could save Thugs' failure, Johar shared, "Thugs of Hindostan has drastically fallen. The film has been outright rejected. It's one of the highest starters and one of the fastest fallers with the decline. I thought it would cross Race 3's business but to be honest, it will not even do that."

"Neither the Diwali holidays nor the higher ticket prices, nothing could help to save it. Though you have a big start as Diwali is the biggest box office date. Post Diwali, Aamir and Amitabh sir did bring the audience initially but it was written on the wall in the evening itself," Girish said.
