Patriotic Films is to John Abraham what Social Message Movies are to Akshay Kumar. In the recent past, the handsome actor has found his footing in such films. However, Romeo Akbar Walter does not fit the bill. A confusing mess with shoddy editing and even repulsing background score, even Jackie Dada's swag can't save the second half.
John plays Romeo, a bank teller who is enlisted as a spy under RAW and sent to Pakistan to attain valuable information for India. Using his chameleon skills to a t, Romeo becomes Akbar and gains the trust of the bad guys. The first sequence of the film is gripping at its best but two minutes later, we have to bare a below average song to foreshadow a love story between John and Mouni Roy. That's where things go downhill in the second half. You are left confused as the track shifts in a zig-zag maze.
Robbie Grewal, who writes and directs this film tries to use dark cinematography and different camera angles to make an espionage thriller but fails to add the intriguing factor. Too much detailing is given to the setting rather than the storyline or the acting. John is earnest at best but it feels like the past few films, he plays the same character with just different aliases. 
The interval ends abruptly with a supposed twist but you're left with a want for more. Hopefully, the second half will be better than John Abraham's wig.
