Veteran Indian actress Waheeda Rehman is one of the most famous Bollywood stars. She was born on 3rd February, 1938, in Tamil Nadu. Her father was Mohammed Abdur Rehman and her mother was Mumtaz Begum. She also had 3 sisters and was the youngest of all. As a child, she along with her sisters were trained in Bharatanatyam. Rehman did her schooling at St. Joseph's Convent in Visakhapatnam. Waheeda always wanted to become a doctor but due to the financial condition of her family, she left her goal and started working on her dancing abilities for pursuing a career in it. Later, she started performing on stage in different shows. Soon after that, she made her acting debut with the 1955 Telugu film Rojulu Maraayi followed by Jayasimha. In the next year, she made her debut in the Tamil film industry with the film, Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum based on Alibaba and 40 Thieves. It was during this time when she made her debut in Bollywood and started working on several films. She became very popular after working with actor Dev Anand with whom she gave many successful films. However, it was filmmaker Guru Dutt, who gave her a chance in Bollywood and cast her in the Bollywood film, C.I.D. Next, she was seen in the film, Pyaasa which was a commercial success and was also considered as the greatest film of her career. Apart from that, she later collaborated with Dutt in films like 12 O'Clock, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, and so on. She also won many awards for her performance. In 1962, she made her debut in the Bengali film industry with the film, Abhijan. Over the years, she worked with several well-established actors like Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Rajendra Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Dev Anand, etc. Talking about her personal life, she got married to Shashi Rekha in 1974 and has two children, Sohail Rekhi and Kashvi Rekhi. Her husband passed away in 2000 after which she started living in Mumbai.
