On one day in 1989, 43 babies were inexplicably born to random, unrelated women who had shown no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by billionaire industrialist Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who founded the Umbrella Academy and prepares his "children" to save the world. But in adolescence, the family falls apart and the team falls apart. Fast forward to the present, where the six surviving members of the clan reunite after Hargreeve's departure. They work together to solve the mystery surrounding their father's death, but different personalities and abilities are tearing the estranged family apart, and a global apocalypse is another imminent threat.
