3 Quick and easy home remedies to bring back the SHINE in dull silk clothes
One of the most luxurious materials to wear, has got to be silk. While these easily get stained and seem like they are hard to maintain, we're here to prove you wrong! Here are easy ways you can keep your silks fresh and shiny at all times.
With a luxurious feel and finish, silks not only look expensive but feel it too. the lustrous material while looking fabulous is easy to stain which makes most believe that silks are hard to maintain. While most times silks require to be washed by hand, getting rid of stains and making them shiny again is easier than it sounds!
Silk lets go of dirt easily which makes for a quick wash. It also needs to be washed after a few wearings unless it has stains or needs refreshing.
How to wash silks:
Mix cold water in a bucket and add to this a small amount of laundry detergent that is mild. Put these silks in it and rub the material. Don't scrub or soak the material for too long as it is sensitive.
To help your silks regain their lustre, in lukewarm or room temperature water, add some distilled vinegar and mix well. Soak the silk pieces in this water and for a maximum of 10 minutes and then remove from vinegar water. Rinse this with normal water and then air dry. This can be used to get rid of sweat stains as well!
To remove stains from silks, do not spot treat the stain as these are usually harsh and damage the garments. Instead, wash the entire silk garment and let it soak for longer to help get rid of the stubborn stains. To reduce the impact of a stain that's still fresh, dampen a clean cloth and blot the stain, without scrubbing it. Let it dry and wash the entire cloth later.
Things to avoid on silks:
Bleach and chlorine cause permanent yellowing and weaken the silk.
Tumble dry in the washing machine.
Avoid twisting or scrubbing the fabric when wet as it could break the threads.
