Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 follows the story of an evil spirit, Manjulika, who has been haunting a family in Bhawanigarh, Rajasthan for the past 18 years. The family seeks help from a tantric baba who manages to trap the spirit in a room in a haveli, which he then seals shut. In the present day, Reet, a member of the same family, is returning to Bhawanigarh to get married forcibly. On her journey, she meets Ruhaan, and they hit it off well. At Ruhaan's insistence, Reet leaves the bus and attends a music festival. Meanwhile, the bus they were supposed to be on falls into a gorge, and everyone on board are presumed dead, including Reet. Reet discovers that her fiancé, Sagar, is in love with her sister, Trisha. She decides not to reveal that she is alive to her family to help Sagar and Trisha's relationship. Reet asks for Ruhaan's help, and they both take refuge in the abandoned haveli where Manjulika is trapped. However, when Chota Pandit sees lights on in the haveli, he informs Reet's family, and they all descend on the haveli. Reet hides, and Ruhaan pretends to be an expert in talking to the dead. He claims that he's in touch with Reet and that she wants the family to move into the haveli. The family believes him and even gives him the name Rooh Baba. Everything seems to be going well until Manjulika's spirit is released from the haveli's sealed room, causing destruction. The rest of the film follows the consequences of the spirit's release and how Ruhaan and Reet try to stop her from wreaking havoc.
