EXCLUSIVE: Not just Rannbhoomi, Varun Dhawan will do another film with Shashank Khaitan

There are three films that Varun and Shashank were planning. While speculations were rife that Rannbhoomi has been shelved, the filmmaker reveals a different story altogther. Read to find out.

Not just Rannbhoomi, Varun Dhawan will do another film with Shashank Khaitan

Shashank Khaitan and Varun Dhawan have delivered two big hits in the Dulhania franchise, under Karan Johar's banner. Last year, the trio made another big announcement about a big budget war saga titled Rannbhoomi. Touted to be one of Dharma Productions' most ambitious drama, it was all set to roll by 2019 for a Diwali release in 2020. While the film got pushed, there were several speculations about Rannbhoomi being shelved.

But that's not true. Shashank reveals, "Rannbhoomi script is done. The VFX and CG research is going on currently but there's no timeline to the film yet." In fact, there was another project that Shashank had planned in the meanwhile - a spy thriller that was also supposed to star VD. That project is definitely not happening anymore, adds the Badrinath Ki Dulhania maker. "The second half of the spy thriller wasnt shaping up the way I had anticipated, and I felt if I have nothing new to say, I should not say it."

But along with Rannbhoomi, Shashank is simultaneously writing another film for the Sui Dhaaga hero. A source informs, "Shashank is currently concentrating on putting together a project which will be in the same space that VD and his films usually are. It's another commercial entertainer but not the third part in the Dulhania series. Shashank and Varun are best friends and he has already discussed the whole idea with him. VD has okayed the film which is currently in the scripting stage. Once that's complete, Shashank, KJo and Varun will take a call on which film to roll first with - Rannbhoomi or the new one."
